Alarms sound over athletes' Facebook time

Facebook.com is a website most college students know and many of their elders don't. Athletics administrators are just getting to know it — and many don't like what they see. USA Today

I dont understand how any kid, athlete or not, can be stupid enough to put incriminating photos of themselves and their friends on the internet. I stay off of facebook and urge others to do the same; does privacy have no value these days?

any athlete under 21 who thinks its a good idea to put pictures of themselves drinking on the internet for all administration to see must not be the sharpest knife in the draw

It's not the athletes fault that they are going out and having a good time while other people snap photos of them and post them on the internet. Don't blame them, blame the people behind the lens.

dj- if they are going out and drinking when they are under 21 AND on a college team, its nobodies fault but their own

athletes or not, kids should be able to go out and not worry that their behavior is being recorded or monitored. its a product of the times, and the college students should just know they have to change their behavior accordingly.

You can not tell kids they can't be on a web site. You need to educate them about what they should use the site for and make they understand they repersent their school and their family. Use at your own risk should be the message.

I agree with Kim. We are talking about college students who are living on their own and have lots of responsibility. If they cannot handle facebook in a mature manner, they are in for a rude awakening in the real world.

Charles you don't understand that Facebook is not always in the kids control. People can post stuff on peoples walls and the athletes won't know about it.

Soon everybody in the world will be on Facebook. That is how we will all communicate. Schools need to relax and let the kids be kids. They are not being paid and they might be in some pictures that are not in great taste but who cares.

I don't see why the students don't just set their profile setting to "private." That way, only people that they are friends with can see their profiles.

Thank you Charles. I am glad somebody agrees with me. We give these kids scholarships to become educated I think they should know right from wrong.

Facebook is insane. Tell the kids to get off of it ASAP. Why should the public need to know more about these athletes then they already do.

Every company in the world will soon be on Facebook. These athletes need to know they are targets and what they put on their page the public will see.

The other problem is that these athletes might not be on Facebook but if their friends put pictures of them on Facebook somebody will find it. That is the world we live in. There is a camera everywhere we go.

Facebook is the best. I am a parent and now all of my friends are on it. I am in groups and my friends and I are keeping in touch. I am not sure why the schools are so upset.

Man, let the athletes have a little fun. As long as they produce on the field/court that should be all that matters.
