Gold Glove program catches on in college

Fielding excellence will officially be recognized at the Divisions I, II and III levels of college baseball for the first time. Nine student-athletes from each division will receive NCAA Rawlings Gold Glove Awards for outstanding defensive play during the 2007 season. NCAA.org

I think defense isn't valued to the extent it should be. Defense is the most important aspect that keeps baseball teams together. Yes, hitting and pitching are important, but teams live and die by their defense. College should be rewarded for their defense too considering they use metal bats.
