Money, health care top group's list

A group of former and current UCLA football players have formed a movement seeking an increase in monthly stipends, full health care coverage and voluntary practices during the offseason, and an increase in life insurance coverage. ESPN.go.com

For all that bigtime football players do for their schools, they should receive better benefits such as the stipends and life insurance. I don't really know about the "voluntary" practice idea though.

Both the NCAA and NFL need to take care of their players more. Those guys put their health and even life in Jeopardy every time they take the field, and they often have major problems even after their done playing.

I agree with Jesse that these guys should be guaranteed much more than they currently are. Some sort of a life insurance policy plus bonus pay. They should not have to "watch the dollar menu at Mcdonald's" in order to eat. They are expected to play like professionals yet they are treated like poor, starving college students.

Healthcare is so important. No body tells these athletes that if they don't do preventive work while playing, they may not be able to play with their kids when they're 40.... that's sad.
