Scholarship for Athletes Expands Tennis Consulting Team

San Diego, CA, March 25, 2008 – Scholarship for Athletes, one of the nation’s leading advisors on sports scholarships for high school athletes, scored an ace this week with the addition to their tennis consulting staff of Ashlie Rolley.

Rolley, who joins the firm as a tennis consultant, is a certified USPTA teaching professional with ten years experience coaching players at all levels. She also has tennis in the family blood. Her grandfather, Ernest Abbes, was President of the Northern California Tennis Association and her mother, Lynne (Abbes) Rolley, is a former top ten player in the world who also served as Director of Women’s Tennis for the USTA for sixteen years.

“I grew up playing and being around tennis my whole life,” says Rolley, “so it’s fantastic to be able to take that experience and passion and be able to help young athletes find the right program that can help them reach their potential whatever level that might be, or maybe in some cases, even set them on the path to a potential pro career.”

Rolley’s role with Scholarship for Athletes will include meeting with and counseling all levels of high school athletes at national and regional tennis tournaments, training camps and other tennis industry events around the country, with the aim of educating families on the increasingly complex process of landing the right scholarship.

“The college sports scene in all sports can be lucrative for those who play the sport and the scholarship game well,” says Scholarship for Athletes CEO, Ross Greenstein. “But because of that, it is also an incredibly competitive environment where finding exactly the right scholarship and roster spot can be challenging if you don’t know the rules of the game. Ashlie is going to be a terrific asset to young athletes and can speak from her own personal experience.”

Rolley is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley where she played Division 1 Tennis and served as team captain in her senior year. Throughout her years at Cal, she was heavily involved in the recruiting of other tennis players to add to the school’s prestigious program. As a junior tennis player, Rolley attended Palmer Academy at Saddlebrook Resort and later graduated from Miramonte High School, where she led the team to three straight undefeated seasons. Through out the Juniors, she competed in multiple National events as well as the Orange Bowl.

Tennis seems to a good way to get into college and not enough kids pursue it, I dont think this sport is as competitive from a scholarship standpoint as football or basketball

Tennis recruiting can be very complicated with a lot of students going straight for the pros. It's important that many do go to college and get their education though, and I am sure that Ashlie is helping them in their school search.
